French studio Method Animation has signed a first deal with YouTube Kids, which will stream animated series Petronix defenders (photo) in the US.
The 52 x 11 minute show, aimed at children ages four to eight, features four superheroes with magical backpacks on a global mission to save nature and protect wildlife. YouTube released an initial batch of eight episodes in its YouTube Kids app yesterday and plans to roll out a new one every week in the future.
Petronix defenders premiered in the US on Discovery Family last month, but main channel Tiny Pop has been broadcasting the series in the UK since September. The German Super RTL and the French Gulli have also picked it up.
Prior to the show’s launch, Method set up a handful of licensing agents to manage the IP’s consumer product rights, including brand-WARD (UK), Planeta Junior (Eastern and Central Europe), Megalicense (Russia and Ukraine) and Plus Licens (Scandinavian countries).
YouTube Kids has been quite active this year: the green-lit animated talk show Corpse from Tiger Aspect Kids and Family in May, acquiring Cyber Group Studios’ first digital and real-time animated series Giant Club in February.
