New updates will be added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published September 19, 2022) follows:
iOS 16 is the most recent update for the iPhone. It contains many improvements and new features.
One of the most exciting new features of iOS 16 is that users can now track their steps, calories, and some physical activities using only an iPhone, without the need for an Apple Watch.
To encourage users to stay healthy, Apple has included the “Activity Ring” in its Fitness app. This is a ring that “fills” as users meet physical activity goals.
With the new iOS 16 feature you can now ‘fill’ the activity ring without needing an Apple Watch. But it seems that this is still not working as well as it should.
According to multiple reports, the iOS 16 Fitness app’s “activity ring” is not updating or showing incorrect data on iPhones.
iOS 16 Fitness app ‘activity ring’ not updating or showing incorrect data
It seems that the activity ring of the iOS 16 Fitness app is not getting full because iPhone users are doing physical activities. This leaves those who had high hopes for the feature disappointed.
Activity ring fitness app without apple watch
I used to have an Apple Watch but I don’t have it anymore and I just wanted to track my activity ring through my phone thanks to this addition in iOS 16. It just doesn’t work though and the Fitness app keeps showing me three activity rings that don’t track anything .
Fitness widget iOS 16
Hi guys, I recently installed iOS 16 on my 13 pro and was happy to see the fitness app and widget added. I was about to uninstall another app that I used to track my steps, but the fitness app widget doesn’t seem to update at all.
The activity ring of the iOS 16 Fitness app also records incorrect data for other users. This negatively affects the overall evaluation they receive of their physical condition.
Active calories are not calculated correctly with the Move Ring?
So I’ve been having some active calorie weirdness ever since I got my new 14 Pro Max. I walk…a lot…and usually burn a minimum of 1250 active calories every day while exercising. However, since I got the new phone, I can’t get close to touching it.
I walked 24,000 steps today and still haven’t reached the 1,000 active calories burned – normally I would have somewhere over 2,000 calories.
That said, the activity ring reportedly works correctly with the Apple Watch.
No official confirmation, possible fix
There is still no official confirmation of the problem from Apple. However, there is a possible solution that can help solve the problem.
I uninstalled the app then restarted my iPhone and reinstalled it.. Now it works fine.. You can try that.. Although I can’t change goals
Unfortunately, users will still lose some features using the workaround. So Apple will have to send a final fix so that users can take full advantage of the Fitness app’s capabilities.
We will update this story as new related developments emerge in the future.
Update 1 (November 18, 2022)
2:40 PM (IST): One of our readers offered a solution that might help you fix the iOS 16 activity ring behavior.
So you have to go to Apple ID and remove the device from your account there. Just removing it from Find My won’t fix it. Remove all Apple Watches and boom, it starts working right away.
Thanks for the tip, Justin Mitchell (@jmitch)!
