Boscov’s, Walmart and these other stores are closed on Thanksgiving: ‘I hope it becomes permanent’

In the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of stores open on Thanksgiving seemed to be on the rise. Some shopkeepers were open during the day, others were open in the evening. Some stayed open all night and all the next day.

But in 2020, ravaged by the pandemic, most stores decided to keep their doors closed for the holiday season. This trend appears to be continuing for a third year.

“Closing on Thanksgiving Day gives our hard-working colleagues the opportunity to spend an uninterrupted day with their families,” said Jim Boscov, chairman and CEO of Boscov’s, in a press release. “A number of things have changed due to the pandemic. I am delighted that this change has become the new normal and I hope it will become permanent in the retail industry.”

Below we’ve put together a list of stores that are closed on Thanksgiving. While there are other retailers that are closed on Thanksgiving, these are the major retailers that have confirmed they will be closing.
