The redesign of Android Auto’s Coolwalk beta is rolling out to users

Android for cars recently released the Coolwalk beta of the new Android Auto UI. This update is now available on the Play Store for anyone who wants to try it.

This is good news for both old and new Android Auto UI users.

As clarified by Android Central, Coolwalk was presented by Google earlier this year, with a split user interface for Android Auto. The idea was to better adapt the split screen to different screen sizes.

We believe that Google has done enough to refine the experience to allow users to use the Coolwalk beta in a new way.

New features from Coolwalk beta

  • The card is closer to the driver for easy access.
  • Users can change the size of the map. It can fill the entire screen so they have a better chance of viewing their route.
  • The media card has been redesigned to dynamically grow and shrink as new messages arrive.
  • With just a swipe, users can now access Google Assistant media recommendations.
  • The app dock allows switching between recent apps with one tap.
  • Material Update your design language and modernized UI components and layouts.
  • The old status icons and notification center bell are now merged into one and can be accessed in an easy to find area. Now users can easily view the number of unread messages.

Better experience with more features

Google has made great strides by listening to what early testers revealed about the app and this has certainly improved the quality of the experience. Since this is a highly anticipated rollout, users are very excited about the experience.

It looks like Google isn’t done adding more features with the Coolwalk beta just yet. That means while this beta is running, car owners can keep their eyes peeled for more changes if they need to.
