LINCOLNTON, GA (WJBF)
Crystal Beard is in charge of a smart, motivated, enthusiastic group of third graders. The students feed off their teacher’s energy and her love for them.
“I was inspired by my mom,” says Beard. “She worked so hard to make sure I knew what I needed to know for school. And I was just inspired by my struggles in elementary school. “
Ms. Beard wanted to make sure she would be the one to pass on her knowledge to her students and make sure their elementary experience went more smoothly than hers.
“Don’t learn the same thing the same way every time. Everyone learns differently. My goal is to let them learn in a different way.”
That means lessons come to life. Like the math they were working on when we came over.
‘We learn to multiply with multiples of ten. We did strategies, multiplication strategies. The goal is to solve problems in multiple ways.”
The goal is also to keep a group of 8 and 9 year olds working.
“We establish those routines, procedures in the beginning and we follow them throughout the year. Just like the classroom today, the daily overhaul of expectations keeps the flow of the classroom consistent.
Mrs. Beard knows she can’t do this alone.
“I love my husband. He is my biggest support. My family. My colleagues. My admin. team. They support me so much. Whatever I want to do, my crazy ideas, they are there to support it.”
She also feels the embrace and support of this community. Lincolnton loves Crystal Beard for the love and devotion she has for these children.
“I know I’m in the right place at the right time because I’ve been praying for it,” she says. “I’ve been praying for it. I know this is exactly what I need to do.”
