Amelie Mauresmo talks about Caroline Garcia’s Grand Slam champion

French tennis legend Amelie Mauresmo thinks Caroline Garcia has what it takes to win a Grand Slam. On Monday, Garcia won the biggest title of his career by defeating Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 (4) 6-4 in the WTA Finals.

After struggling with his game for several years, Garcia rediscovered his best game in the second half of the 2022 season. In the second half of 2022, Garcia won four titles – the biggest being an inaugural WTA 1000 title in Cincinnati and his first title at the prestigious season-ending tournament.

Furthermore, Garcia made his first Grand Slam semifinal at the US Open. “We’ve known that for a long time, she has the potential to win a Grand Slam for sure,” Mauresmo told Eurosport.

Mauresmo supports Garcia to become Grand Slam champion

Now that Garcia is a WTA 1000 and WTA Finals champion, her next goal will surely be to win a Grand Slam.

Following her WTA Finals win, Garcia returned to the career ranking of No. 4, which she previously achieved in 2018. On Monday, Garcia beat Sabalenka in straight sets, but it was an easy win. The only break points of the match were seen in the first game of the second set, when Garcia broke Sabalenka.

“It’s definitely a lot of giant happiness. A crazy finale, a lot of intensity at every point. Just really proud of the work we’ve done all year. It was a great game – that’s really what it was for. I’m very happy to win my biggest title.

Just really happy with the mindset, being really calm at every moment. All the negative emotion doesn’t affect me, and that was a really big part of taking advantage of the few opportunities I had in the tiebreaker and in the first game I beat her in the second,” Garcia said after winning the WTA Finals.

Considering how Garcia ended her 2022 season, she is sure to be among the favorites for the Australian Open title in January.
