WINONA, Minn. – After a major win on the road, Winona State University football student and athlete Darius Manuel won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Defensive Player of the Week following their week ten competition against Upper Iowa University.

Additionally, Winona State broke the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) weekly poll, coming in at No. 25 this week.

Manuel earned his NSIC nod by dominating the line of scrimmage against Upper Iowa in a 45-7 win last Saturday, ending the contest with two sacks between his three tackles for the in-game loss. The Des Moines Iowa product led Winona State with seven total tackles, including five solo stops. Manuel’s monstrous day against UIU took him to 11 career sacks in his time as a Warrior.

This week’s WSU opponent Minnesota State is ranked 23rd, setting up a showdown between two nationally ranked schools on Saturday, November 11th. The Warriors and Mavericks will start at noon at Blakeslee Stadium in Mankato, Minnesota. between the two teams.
