Dutch players named after 61-13 win over Luther on Saturday

PELLA – Central College Kicker Logan Sunvold (junior, Monroe, Southeast Polk HS) and defender Brody Klein (junior, Rainier, Wash.) received football honors from the Rivers Conference for his performance in a 61-13 victory over Luther College on Saturday in Pella.

Sunvold was ranked as the Special Teams Player of the Week. He hit 7-of-7 on extra points and kicked a 32-yard field goal on Saturday. He also recorded three touchbacks, averaging 61.2 yards on kickoffs. Sunvold ranks 13th in NCAA Division III in season shooting percentage at 0.800 (8-10) and is 25th in shooting per game at 0.89. He hit 51 out of 52 extra points conversion attempts and is Central’s top scorer with 75 points in nine games.

It is the second time this year and the fifth time overall that Sunvold has received the honor. He was previously quoted on October 24 and was selected to the conference’s first team last year.

Klein is the defensive player of the week after delivering a couple of big plays on Saturday. He landed a deflected pass for an interception and ran 45 yards for a touchdown. He also blocked an extra point to try that quarterback Dillon Hoit (senior, Solon) caught and ran 90 yards for a two-point conversion. He posted four tackles, including three solos with 1.0 tackles for a loss and a quarterback in a hurry. For the season, he had 51.0 tackles with 7.0 tackles per loss, 1.5 pass sacks, two interceptions and four quarterback runs. Klein received an honorable mention at every conference in the past year.

Central (6-3 overall, 4-3 conference) close out the regular season Saturday at the University of Dubuque in a 1pm game.
